Data-driven design thinking

Combining both qualitative and quantitative indicators helps inform business priorities and enhance products. One aspect I am very interested in is data-driven design thinking through integrating analytics into the design process. For instance, rather than only conducting testing with limited numbers of participants, I value observing the broader analytics of drop-off rates for completing a task, calculating numbers of return users, measuring the amount of time to finish a task, etc.

Measure user experience by usability metrics

User experience (UX) design is the process of creating products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. To do so, UX designers should consider users' actions, attitudes, feelings, and thoughts before, during, and after users use a product. A convenient yet effective of measuring user experience is by using usability metrics.

How to apply usability metrics?

When I use apps in my daily life, I take into consideration the usability metrics to understand and learn what the app does well and what it could do better. As a product designer, I keep the metrics in mind when designing a prototype for a new project, evaluating a product (together with Heuristic Evaluation for a more detailed analysis), and analysing insights from usability testing.
